Five categories cover scientific initiation, university students, young researchers, senior researchers, and integration teams. Cash awards are R$20,000, R$30,000, R$40,000, R$50,000, and R$60,000 respectively; the prize is individual and indivisible, and for a team it is paid to the principal author.
