The fund has operated since 2017 and the 2026 guide reports support for more than 100 research projects. Topics include large models and applications, machine learning and operations research, autonomous driving, security, and job-profile research. Applicants may submit up to two proposals. Selected projects normally run for one year; the award amount is set in the project agreement. Applicants generally need a senior professional title or doctorate, with an alternative two-referee route, and must be able to sign a Chinese research cooperation agreement through their institution.
